The
Yakima River is Washington's most popular fly fishing destination.
Lots of bugs and lots of trout. When the Yakima became a catch and
release fishery from Roza to Easton in 1990, it's doubtful that
anyone anticipated the numbers of anglers and guides that we see on
the Yak today. Although pressure is lighter that other great rivers,
it's not like 'the old days' when you pretty much had the Yak to
yourself. A Royal Wulff or an Elk Hair Caddis will still fool trout
on a good day, but to consistently catch trout on the Yakima, we've
all had to become better fly fishers. Nobody knows the hatches, the
water, the seasons, the techniques or the trout better than we do.
There are still days when we scratch our heads, but if it wasn't a
challenge it wouldn't be fun. |
